The Parish Council

Sea FrontAs the first level of government, the Parish Council is the channel for action on much of the local infrastructure that we take for granted.   We are organised into five Committees.  Each Committee and the Main Council meets monthly.

We pay for free parking in the two local car parks, ensure the grass verges and footpaths are kept tidy, we sponsor the planting of a roundabout on the A259 and make grants to causes which benefit Felpham residents. We are responsible for twoAllotments local allotment sites, other open spaces, and have an ongoing Parish Tree Project.
We monitor all planning applications in the Parish and, using our local knowledge, we advise Arun District Council of the action we believe that they should take.

Tree PlantingEvery summer, we organize a Fun on the Prom evening for local residents and their families. We have been promoting the provision of skateboard facilities for young people and this has been achieved on the ’Larksfield’ recreation ground with further equipment planned to enhance the facilities further and we have provided an all-season play area. The all weather cycle and footpath circuit around King George Fifth Recreation Field has proved to be a great success.

Arun District Council’s Local Plan has allocated land to the north of Felpham for 700 new dwellings and a relief road that will bypass the present A259. The Parish Council is very aware of local concerns, and is involved in negotiations with the District and County Councils to obtain the best outcome from this development for the benefit of Felpham residents.   This is a complex issue because the Local Plan was challenged in the High Court with the result that the Planning Application was the subject of a further Public Enquiry.  The Government has decided that the housing development will go ahead - subject to the approval of adequate infrastructure.   There is much to fight for !
